Sierra's Law

SUPPORT SIERRA’S LAW

Today's global geo-political climate has introduced our democratic union to new enemies that would love nothing more than to destroy our peace of mind, sense of security, and way of life. These enemies are foreign and domestic and are not afraid to lose their life as long as they strike terror in the hearts of our communities in the process.

This became more evident than ever on December 2, 2015, as fourteen innocent people were killed and twenty-two were seriously injured in Bernardino, California, which consisted of a mass shooting and an attempted bombing.

On December 3, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) opened a counter-terrorism investigation and on December 6, 2015; President Barack Obama declared the shooting an act of terrorism.

This act caused the death of a beautiful soul; Sierra Clayborn. This incident could've been avoided if better safety and security measures were in place.

WHY WE NEED SIERRA'S LAW:

Current Law:
There are state and federal laws currently in statute that make it illegal for individuals to commit terrorist acts and procure firearms for the purpose of terrorism, but they are not enough. More importantly, it is imperative that we put in place new safeguards to protect our way of life from those that seek to destroy it. This can only be accomplished by placing some semblance of responsibility on our citizens-at-large to ensure that we identify terror before it is too late.

Sierra's Law:
The purpose of Sierra's law is to expound upon the state and federal laws we have which make it illegal to conspire with terrorist or form a conspiracy to commit terrorist acts as well as to fund terrorist acts. Additionally, this law would allow law enforcement access to communication devices and social media accounts to thwart terrorist attacks at schools, businesses, public places, and community events abroad. Sierra's Law would also implement mandatory diversity training for companies with more than forty employees.

This law is designed to hold individuals accountable that may have knowledge or information regarding those that seek to attack us domestically and abroad. Additionally, this law would provide law enforcement with leverage to access information to fight terrorism. Moreover, this law is designed to provide additional safeguards to our colleges, universities, and workplaces as the fight we are currently engaged in is increasingly being perpetuated with attacks on our soil. Homeland Security can only do so much, the rest is up to us as citizens of the free world to do our part to preserve our communities!

On December 2nd, 2015 our world became a lot smaller as our beloved Sierra Simone Sunshine Clayborn was taken from us at twenty-seven years young. We are saddened by her departure and thankful for the many days of laughter and joy that she brought into our lives. The world is definitely a darker place in her absence as she always sought the best in every situation, brought out the best in every individual she met and made the most of every opportunity she was blessed to have. Sierra was a peaceful and fun loving young woman who loved life, helping others in her community, hello kitty, and anime’ productions and events.

Sierra was an Environmental Health Specialist with the County of San Bernardino for three years and excelled at all she did. Sierra was an extremely intelligent and beautiful soul and while there are many uncertainties surrounding her death, we are certain she did not deserve her fate.
